James Byrd’s Atlantis Rising-Beyond the Pillars (Lion Music)

07 Aug

James Byrd is a great guitarist!!! For those who don’t know him Byrd was the guitarist of Fifth Angel in their first homonymous album which really one of the best metal albums I have ever heard!!! After his department he followed a solo carrer releasing 7 albums. This release contains 7 songs from the first solo work of James Byrd  (Atlantis Risning, 1990) and 7 songs that were composed that period but remained unreleased until today. The titles of the unreleased tracks are “Chasing The Shadows”, “I don’t believe in love”, “On my mind”, “Waiting in the shadows”, “Stranger in the night”, “Gotta find you” and  “Requiem Atlantis”. The other songs are known for 20 years so I don’t need to comment something on them. The unreleased tracks are a bit more commercial than the rest of the work of James Byrd but they are really good songs. The guitar work is excellent. “Chasing The Shadows” is really a great song that I can’t stop listening. “Gotta find you” and “Requiem Atlantis”(instrumental) are 2 really good songs while “Waiting in the shadows” is the most weak song of the album. For the fans of melodic metal this is a must buy but the rest of you should try to hear it!
